About my current series
I live on the Grand River in Fergus and I am in awe of the beauty, power and continual motion of it, that for me, is reminiscent of a woman. My paintings are inspired by the flowing shapes of the river and the water flowing in the female form. As these forms merge, my paintings take on a mythical quality. The human spirit is derived by nature and nature is impacted by that same life force.
My paintings depict different times in a woman’s life. From youthful women in the daytime, playful and bright. Water nymphs ready to be wed and bear children ensure that life along the river continues. The river flows constantly and is continuously reborn. This is women's gift to the earth. Without her, life can not be sustained. All the way through to mature women at night, laying calmly in the darkness soothing the night. Trees that nourish us, have sprouted from her loins and this is her legacy, as she enters the later stages of her life. I feel the spiritual elements of my new world and they push me to explore these feelings in my art.
Celebrating women’s beauty and resilience through the lens of the natural world has brought my imagination to new heights, as I envision her everyday, as I gaze upon the river.
